Do I really need all that Project Management Bureaucracy?
No, you don’t need the bureaucracy. That doesn’t mean you wouldn’t benefit from some of the tools that the Project Management Framework provides.
Think about trying to hang a shelf in your living room. A screwdriver functions well enough to get the brackets attached to the wall, but a drill is a lot faster. You can eyeball whether the shelf is straight or not, or you can use a level. Project Management is similar. There are tools that are designed to make your project go more smoothly and work better after launch.
A lot of the words that Project Managers use sound scary and overly complicated, but they are simply tools to help you finish your project more quickly, efficiently and accurately.
I have worked in PMOs of almost every size, and know how to apply the right tools at the right time to balance ‘the bureaucracy’ and efficiency.
